Abstract:
LEDs (light-emitting diodes) play an increasingly important role as light sources, including instrument panels, indoor and outdoor displays, and traffic signals. Recent advances in optoelectronics provide efficient LEDs capable of a wide range of output colors. However, current techniques to produce white-light LEDs yield complex devices that are difficult and costly to manufacture.
Researchers have developed methods and structures for single devices with several individual-wavelength-emitting LEDs. These single optoelectronic devices emit full-color or white light and achieve efficient output using a simple, low-cost design.
ADVANTAGES: This technology permits fabrication of single devices that emit white or multiple-color light.
